Kube art group exhibits at the Kilkenny Arts Festival 2005

“On…Line”, the exhibition by the four members of Kube, takes place in Kilkenny County Council Offices and the Watergate Theatre July 22nd – September 22nd, ’05.

The primacy of line in each artist’s work prompted the title “On…line”. Megan O’Beirne uses line to express geometrically the anguished experiences in the Concentration Camps of the last war; Ruth Lockhart scores deep in her oils to plumb the depths of dream-life in her rock-pool images; Iseult O’Flynn uses line in her exploration of memory and Chris Atkins charts the contour lines of the landscape in their quasi-hidden manifestations.

The exhibition was launched at County Council Offices on 22nd July with an opening address by Mr David Milne, Head of music at Kilkenny College and well-known choral and orchestral conductor.

The four artists feel very privileged to showcase their work in such superb spaces, namely, the elegantly impressive curved corridor and the circle area on the first floor of the County Council Offices as well as on the first-floor wall-spaces of the Watergate Theatre.

2004

Exhibition at Garter Lane Arts Centre 8th March – 3rd April 2004.

Niamh Ann Kelly, lecturer in Art & Design lecturer at Dublin Institute Technology, launches the latest KUBE Art Group exhibition at Garter Lane Arts Centre at 7pm on Tuesday 8th March 2004.

Artists Chris Atkins, Iseult Flynn, Ruth Lockhart and Megan O’Beirne, alias KUBE, exhibit at Garter Lane Arts Centre from 8th March – 3rd April 2004. Three painters and one printmaker (Iseult Flynn), they each pursue their own individual artistic goals, but have additionally chosen to exhibit together since graduating from Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design & Technology in 2001.

Garter Lane joins Mermaid Arts Centre, Wexford Arts Centre and Tinahely Courthouse Arts Centre in recognising the bold vision of these four artists.

LANDSCAPE; ARCHAEOLOGY; ARTEFACTS; ANCIENT PLACES; HIDING PLACES; BARRIERS; WORDS; LANGUAGE AND MEMORIES are all themes recurring in this show comprising luscious paintings and striking drypoint original prints.

The four artists in KUBE are spiritually bound in their quest within their own individual art to examine the environment, and the human influence on it. Words, markers, religion, social history - the physical emblems that make us human, as they appear in the world around us, and within us.

2003

The Kube exhibition "Connect 4" at the Tinahely Courthouse Arts Centre, Co. Wicklow, was opened on 14 September 2003 by Mary Kelly, visual artist.

In her address, she said "This type of work takes courage, discipline and ability and the same tenacious energy helped them to come together as a group and to call themselves KUBE, to make sure their work had a life outside themselves, with the result that to date they have had considerable success in exhibitions and shows such as this. " The exhibition ran until 10 Oct 2003.
